Ya'an Green Code Traceability Refreshes 4,000-Mu Tea Gardens — Smart Monitoring Elevates Eco-Tea Quality

Yaan, Sichuan — In August 2026, a heartwarming update emerged from Tangba Village, Yucheng District, Yaan City: a small digital green code badge has revitalized 4,000 mu (about 267 hectares) of local tea gardens.

On August 11, Sichuan TV reported the latest progress of the Double Insurance + Smart Monitoring pilot in Tangba Village. The system establishes a unique digital ID card for every tea farmer and every tea plot — one code per household, one file per garden. Before applying any treatment, farmers must declare on their phone: what was applied, when, and on which plot. The smart system judges within seconds — compliant operations pass instantly, while violations trigger immediate alerts. AI-powered cameras monitor the gardens 24 hours a day, while seven grid supervisors patrol the smart blind spots hidden in ravines and bamboo groves on foot.

The results are immediate and tangible. Green code tea fetches 0.5 yuan more per jin (500g) than ordinary bulk tea — for large-scale tea, that translates into hundreds of yuan more per mu. Locally grown Fuxuan No. 9 and Fuding Dabai pre-Qingming bud tea, backed by the green code, sell for 90 yuan per jin; Anji white tea and Golden Tea reach 110 yuan per jin. Farmer Wei Chengjun tallies four concrete savings: 150 yuan per year saved through bulk agricultural input purchases, stable offtake contracts signed with leading tea companies, steadily rising fresh-leaf prices, plus a year-end rebate of 0.2 yuan per jin based on procurement volume — netting an additional 400 to 600 yuan per mu annually.

Standardized cultivation, digital monitoring, quality traceability, premium pricing — one "green code" has linked the entire value chain, offering a replicable model for "digital village" construction across Sichuan Province. Wei Guoqiang, Party Secretary of Tangba Village, reflects that the days when "even great tea couldn't fetch a good price" are gone. Gan Qingsong, Director of the Agricultural Machinery Service Center of Yucheng District, says the next step is to tighten this digital supervision network and accumulate experience for "digital village" development across the city and province, letting data travel farther while farmers walk less.

Across Yaan, the hometown of Panda Tea, digital empowerment of the tea industry extends far beyond one village. At the foot of Mengding Mountain — the birthplace of world tea culture — digital technology and tea gardens converge in new ways. The "three-tea integration" concept of ecological tea, cultural tea, and brand tea is breathing fresh vitality into the story of "a single leaf". Within the 800 to 1,500-meter core giant panda habitat zone, tea gardens have long adhered to a zero chemical fertilizer and zero chemical pesticide cultivation model, pioneering the patented "panda manure fertilization" technique — protecting a quality ecological cup from the very source.

Beyond the tea mountains, tea-drinking experiences in the digital age are also being reimagined. Recently, the 31st-floor Sky Lounge of the InterContinental Select Chengdu Palm Springs Hotel launched a "Panda Ganlu" (Panda Sweet Dew) co-branded afternoon tea, drawing inspiration from the "dual origin" culture of "the birthplace of world tea culture and the scientific discovery site of the world's first giant panda" — letting the fragrance of ecological tea from Mengding Mountain drift into the city skyline. The "Panda + Tea" dual IP is expanding from Yaan's tea mountains to a far wider stage of consumer experience.

When a single "green code" brings smiles to tea farmers, and when digital technology safeguards the quality of ecological tea, Panda Tea is proud to share a cup of authentic Chinese tea from the hometown of giant pandas — paying tribute to the craftsmanship and dedication nurtured within these verdant mountains.
