On September 10, 2026, the 11th World Geographical Indication Brand Distribution and Service Conference opened in Beijing as a key event of the China International Fair for Trade in Services. Among the cases released that day, the Mengding Mountain Tea brand was named to the 2026 list of geographical indication cases that help rural industry revitalization. For a tea with more than two thousand years of documented history, the recognition marks a new chapter in a quiet but steady march from a mountain in Sichuan to shelves and tables abroad.
A recognized national geographical indication product and one of China top ten regional public tea brands, Mengding Mountain Tea has built the largest high-quality green tea production base in the country. Its trademark is now registered in the United Kingdom, Japan, Russia and the Hong Kong region of China, and its geographical indication was included in the China-EU Geographical Indications Agreement protection list, entering the European Union market from 2024. According to public industry data, the tea is exported to 33 countries and regions worldwide.
The story begins on Mengding Mountain, where Wu Lizhen planted seven tea trees during the Western Han Dynasty more than two thousand years ago, the first recorded artificial tea planting by humankind. From the Tang Dynasty onward the tea was presented as imperial tribute for 1169 consecutive years. Today the mountain sits within the Giant Panda National Park, where nearly a fifth of China wild giant pandas live, and where mist, diffuse light and clean mountain air give the leaves their gentle character.
Rooted in the same panda habitat at elevations of 800 to 1500 meters, Panda Tea is an ecological brand that shares this origin. It practices zero chemical fertilizer and zero chemical pesticide farming, returns giant panda manure as natural organic fertilizer to the tea rows, and follows the local three-roast-three-roll non-material cultural heritage craft. Each product carries the founder original panda-calligraphy artwork as an anti-counterfeiting mark. As Mengding Mountain Tea broadens its global footprint, Panda Tea carries the same ecological promise to tea lovers who care about where their cup comes from.
The quiet global march continues. With protected status in Europe, registered trademarks across key markets, and a growing export network, the birthplace of world tea culture is no longer a remote mountain legend but a living, breathing name on international shelves, one serene cup at a time.
